I figure that these are the most criminal statutes that most likely relate to bicycles: Theft; Robbery; Burglary; Vandalism;

IF YOUR BIKE GETS STOLEN: (THEFT)

§ 720 ILCS 5/16-1

and THE BIKE'S VALUE IS LESS THAN $300

Class A misdemeanor

more if it was taken from a school or place of worship

more if the bad guy has thieved or burgled or been caught trying before

if THE BIKE'S VALUE IS MORE THAN $300

Class 3 felony

more if it was taken from a school or place of worship

more if the bad guy has thieved or burgled or been caught trying before

more if the bike is worth more than $10,000

IF YOUR BIKE IS TAKEN FROM YOU - ROBBERY

§ 720 ILCS 5/18-1. Robbery

Taking a bike from the rider or in his/her presence by force or by threat of imminent use of force.
Class 2 felony
more if the victim is 60 years of age

more if committed in a school or place of worship

§ 720 ILCS 5/18-2. Armed robbery

a robbery with a dangerous weapon

Class X felony

more if the weapon is a firearm

even more if the firearm is used

§ 720 ILCS 5/18-5. Aggravated robbery

Taking a bike from the rider or in his/her presence by force or by threat of imminent use of force with an indication that the bad guy is armed with a dangerous weapon

Aggravated robbery is a Class 1 felony.

IF YOUR BIKE IS TAKEN FROM A BUILDING - BURGLARY

§ 720 ILCS 5/19-1. Burglary

The bad guy enters a building (NOT YOUR HOUSE), housetrailer, watercraft, aircraft, motor vehicle with intent to commit a theft.

Class 2 felony.

more if it was taken from a school or place of worship

§ 720 ILCS 5/19-2. Possession of burglary tools

The bad guy has any key, tool, instrument, or device suitable for use in breaking into a building or something else, with intent to enter and commit a theft.

Class 4 felony

example

Defendant's conviction upheld where proof indicated that the intention to steal bicycles and to break into garages, and he had possession of bolt cutters in his van (in case a bicycle were chained to some object or to cut chains or locks on the outside storage sheds where bicycles are frequently kept. People v. Rodriquez, 153 Ill. App. 3d 652, 106 Ill. Dec. 523, 505 N.E.2d 1314 (2 Dist. 1987).

§ 720 ILCS 5/19-3. Residential burglary

The bad guy enters a DWELLING intent to take a bike (comit a theft).

Class 1 felony

IF YOUR BIKE IS VANDALIZED or DAMAGED

§ 720 ILCS 5/21-1. Criminal damage to property

the bad guy knowingly damages your bike without your consent

DAMAGE IS LESS THAN $300

Class A misdemeanor

more if it was taken from a school or place of worship

more if the bad guy has theived or burgled or been caught trying before

DAMAGE EXCEEDS $300

Class 4 felony

more if it was taken from a school or place of worship

more if the bad guy has theived or burgled or been caught trying before

more if the bike is worth more than $10,000

maybe community servicetoo, if available, and if no jail time is ordered in the

IF THE BAD GUYS TRIES TO GET THE BIKE - ATTEMPT

§ 720 ILCS 5/8-4. Attempt

an attempt with intent to commit theft or robbery (or other crime)

penalty not to exceed the maximum provided for the offense
